A 250 looks like it would be as easy or easier to manually steer off of than the original Trimble LCD screen. I don't even know what it was called; it predated the 500, and in it's day was supposed to be pretty good because it was more than just a row of lights. Anyway, I've steered off one of the old units and a 250 should be better than that.

Also, for the record I'm certain that the cheapest non-integrated autosteer system running waas can plant straighter than some of the marker-only planting jobs I've harvested in the past. So count me as one that says you can plant with waas, because for a lot of people it's way better than planting without it.
