The Shell Knob Basin (Southwest Missouri)
and bullranch, im honest to goodness a very easy guy to get along with!.... and love to discuss real life opinions and experiences and learn new things!... its what i live for!.... i just hate when people argue valid research and known fact with what they've been doing and getting away with!................I truly HATE IT........ he asked to look at his ration... I told him my educated opinion..... others denounced me because of what they've been doing and getting away with... and probably without ever trying anything different than what they've been doing.... My dad used to feed weaned calves straight alfalfa and then 7-8 pounds of whole corn when we turned them out on straight K31 fescue.... they always got loose and sickly shortly after weaning and then he would give half of them mild acidosis trying to "get them on corn".... some would never eat at a bunk again and always looked like warmed over death.... but they sold good becasue they had frame with no flesh and would gain weight so fast on someones place who knew what they were doing!..... but if you ever asked him, hed tell you exactly how he did it and tell you it was the best way in the world to do it!... and that his calves topped the market and you should do it like that!..... hed just conveniently leave out the sickly weaned calves that could crap through a screen door and the acidosis issues!... I hated listening to him in the salebarn because i knew his "wisdom" was bull****!.... thats part of the reason he went broke, and also part of the reason my brother and i chose to educate ourselves..... if he had been rowcropping or doing something to keep him from going broke, hed prob be on New Ag Talk agreeing with everyone that hes fed 8 pounds of straight whole corn for years and "never had an issue" and that its the perfect thing to do if you want your calves to top the market.... come to think of it, i should call him and tell him to join... hed fit in good if he knew how to turn on a computer!....
