The Shell Knob Basin (Southwest Missouri)
You're very welcome!... Anytime!...
and feelnrite ... you dont have to have a smother crop... you can just do a two or three spray system depending on the seedling germ rate of the K31 and hardyness of the oldest plants.... (for example, graze the K31 into the ground all June or cut it for hay to try to keep it from going to seed in that field..... then spray the K31 with roundup first of July.... let die.... let seedlings germ and spray first of August to kill weeds and any germed K31 or plants that didnt die..... then wait for any plants that were dormant to break dormancy and for seedlings to germ the first cool wet spell the end of august.... drill the E+ right after.... or before that last spray..... Bingo Bango!... you dont loose too much production if you already got the grazing or hay off of it in June... and if you get the E+ planted the end of August... will have grass to graze in the fall.... [you can always plant wheat as a companion crop if you want more grazing faster]....)
lastly, if you "dont have the gonads" to spray out that good ol' ""i never want to get rid of my good grass that isn't actually good in any way shape or form"" K31, then i would skip the E+ and try a fairly aggressive clover and ryegrass interseeding program.... rygrass is the only thing that iv seen that will compete with fescue if managed and grazed correctly!.... (just make sure your rygrass is free of an ergot producing endophyte as well!.... most all marketed forage varieties are).... GOOD LUCK!
