Sanilac Co. Michigan | My ground has been continuously no-tilled for the last 15 to 20 years. Biggest issue for me here, is woodchuck burrows. Sometimes I need to use a blade to level out the big ones before sowing, otherwise ruts left over from a wet fall can get bad enough, you want to rip up the field and start fresh. By and large I can live with a few shallow ruts. I've been out west in the Dakota's and northern prairie and I really don't know how you handle gopher, prairie dog and badger burrows short of tillage. You're right though, some things work better in theory than in practice. If I had the same wildlife to deal with as you do, I'm not sure I could continuously no-till either! | |
