northern IL
how do you figure that silage is to expensive compared to grass hay ? 200 bushel corn can produce 30 ton silage . 200 x $7 = $1400 / 30 ton = $47 a ton + $13 aton to chop and bag =$60 or $.03 a lb. ten lbs a day will keep there body score up in the summer for $.30 a day . some other products for some energy are wet distillers , wet gluten , brewers grain, day old bread , bakery goods , cookies , grain fines , soyhulls ............... sometimes the good stuff is cheaper than the filler products , hay here is bringing between $200- $350 a ton and you can buy dry distillers grain for $275 a ton and straw at $145 a ton in an earlier thread
