Grow your own if at all possible. With the way hay prices have been and probably will be for awhile I don't see how anyone can come out ahead shelling out all that $$$. Yeah it isn't cheap to grow your own either but you can be sure that you have enough supply on hand and don't have to count on others to bail you out. Quality shouldn't be that great of a concern. Chopping alfalfa for silage is a very nice way to put it up if weather isn't cooperating for dry hay production.
