SW Oklahoma | In Oklahoma, its really too late to spray Alfamax for weeds. We have just come through a big (at least in some areas) alfalfa weevil hatch. Most people sprayed for them. Phosphorus is a real issue for us and we can justify putting on 2-3 years worth of P2O5 prior to establishment, so no split applications there.
I'm assuming that with mower type, you are referring to one cutting stems cleaner than the other. My opinion is that mower type doesn't matter. After cutting, those shoots pretty much die back and the new growth comes from the crown, so what difference does mower type make?
