I still think though there will be some effort to confiscate IRA's, 401Ks, pensions. It will be under the guise of providing a safe return for retirement by investing in  govt. bonds which will appear to have some sort of security backstop by the full faith and credit of the govt. which really means nothing anymore. It's the last really big pot of money they won't be able to keep their sticky fingers off of .

I don't think it will be out and out confiscation, but taxation will be used.  Nothing to stop Congress from imposing higher/more taxes on retirement accounts except the voter for a backstop.  And how well has that worked out lately?

Yes even ROTH IRAs will be taxed by the time I am ready to retire 40 years from now.  If not, why not?  Just because Congress made a promise to me does not mean they will keep it.  They will be looking at all that untaxed gain in my accounts and salivate thinking about it.
