Nope. Don't buy that. No one asks for a zip code when you pull out a credit card.
You walk up to a checkout, and they ask for the zip. No credit card in view, nothing has been rung up. Has nothing to do with a credit card. Cash sale, check, debt card, credit card - they ask for zip first thing, payment doesn't matter.
