Southeast Colorado | I think I would want at least a 3 year and maybe more like a 5 year agreement in place. Unless you have a really good wet season it will take a couple of years to get the ground producing again and it will be less profitable than good ground for quite a while. I actually had a section offered that borders me a couple of years ago and because they were not willing to give me a longer term commitment I passed. Some of the land we have bought 10 years ago took a good 3 or 4 years to get back to normal production. I know its tough to pass on anything available so good luck with your decision. I also have to admit that I tend to not look at rented land favorably anyway so I probably am biased in my response. If there is some potential to possibly be able to own the land you are looking at renting than I would probably give it more serious consideration. | |
