Years ago I had an old sawmiller tell me of a tract of timber that had been the site of a civil war era cannon factory. Apparently they test fired the cannons into the woods. He told me several loggers had tried to cut the timber and all had given up when they wrecked their saws on the balls embedded in the logs.
