Subject: RE: Some are inverter generators- Any advantage

Inverter "generators" how much enlightenment do you want beyond NIGHTMARE?

Instead of running at 3600rpm to make 60hz power, the inverter units change speed according to load conditions. Low load = low speed, high load = high speed.
Since that results in the output frequency being all over the spectrum, the power from the generator head then goes into a frequency converter. The output of the frequency converter then goes to the machines power outlet.

When they work, they work well. When they crap out, and they do regularly, from heat, vibration and humidity and dirt, they are very expensive to repair. Most manufacturers are now into the third generation of the machines, and parts are hard to come by, especially parts for generation 1 machines.
