Southeast Wyoming | Ed, I think it is important to keep scripture in the context where it was written. Fifty years ago it was pointed out that some "churches" will not allow women to "put" their hair "up" but instead to leave it long and upon their shoulders. Their scriptural basis for that was the King James version of Matthew 27:17.
"Let him which is on the house top not come down to take any thing out of his house." Yes, the scriptures does say ". . .top not come down . . ."
As pointed out by others below, the idea that the church was built upon Peter, let alone upon Peter alone, is simply not supported by scripture, taken in it's entirity, or in context.
The church is to be build upon Christ and the witness of the Holy Spirit that "Thou (Jesus) art the Christ, the Son of the living God". AND the Holy Spirit WILL NOT contradict scripture.
Peter went on to deny Christ, not only once but three times. That is not inconsistant with "The" church today.
This idea that we are to follow a man is not from God and is the cause of our fallen world, if scripture is to be believed. |
