We have 6 barn cats. One year after having about 250 broken straw bales, a mother with kittens showed up. Ended up trapping all the cats and got them fixed. Feed them twice a day (a small amount), and haven't had a broken string in two years (we put up about 10K straw bales a year). Not saying that it is the cheapest, but I never liked having poision out.
