Subject: Pet Guard Insecticide gel

Central Kansas
Larry...the best stuff we have been able to find for our kenneled bird dogs is Pet Guard....an insecticide gel in a white, flat, squeeze bottle. We have to get ours from the vet....but considering how it works, I think it is worth it. Some on-line outfit or the vet catalog will probably have this and I don't think you need a prescription.

It has a pleasant odor, but of course dogs want to get rid of it by rubbing there head and ears in the grass and dirt. It rubs in and disappears so if they are detained a little bit, it seems to dry off....or at least the rubbing doesn't seem to decrease its effectiveness. One application generally lasts all day and it seems to really work well.

Only problem is when they see you coming with the white bottle, they become a lot less friendly. We just squeeze some out in our hand and have a treat in the other. Some dogs don't mind it being put on at all.
