Wi | copper105 - 3/7/2013 05:37 Have W900's and 379EX hood both manuver about the same, both great looking trucks. KW has a better cab and ride, don't like the mirrors on the door on a Pete, again both great trucks. A huge plus with the Paccar trucks is the door hinges, the Navistar door hinges are to light. They are automotive quality. IMO buy a pete or kw you won't regret it.
Every time I get in another truck the first thing I miss is the mirrors on the KW. The Mack mirrors are so far back you really have to move around a lot to see in them. Freightliner mirrors shake so bad with the doors too.
Treekiller - 3/7/2013 04:42 We prefer 379exh ,the cabs are tight, flex air suspension is a great ride. We buy 260 to 270 inch wheelbase, they turn well, pulling 51 foot hoppers out of the fields. The pete's are easier to work on as we do our work. We have a KW t-800 also, nice driving truck but very hard to work on. One thing is the longer the hood is , the easier it is to work on the engine. The pete's might have better resale down the road.
A 379's engine sure does sit way out there. I like that you can still see the back of the motor on a T800/T600 which makes it nicer than a lot of trucks, but the long hoods are definately nicer. Now if they had the engines in there that they were designed for it may get a little more cramped(12v71,3408,KTA1150).
I think resale is pretty close on KW and Pete. I had been spending a lot of time truck shopping a few months ago and when it came to 379 versus W900, similar trucks were similar in price. W900s seemed higher overall but there were a lot more rougher looking 379s that may have been the cause for that. Seems so many people just want a 379 to be a "super truck" then don't take care of it at all. It just seems there is a higher percentage of people with pride in the W900s than the 379s. See a lot of beat up unpolished 379s rolling around here. I think they are neck and neck though resale wise. I definatley think the 379 Short Hood will outsell the W900B. Those things are ugly with an aerocab.
The T800 seems to really hold its value if it is spec'd with a big motor and trans. Pete doesn't really seem to have a direct competitor to the T800. The 357/367 maybe. 386 is more along the lines of T660 and both trucks seem close.
It does seem like the 387 holds much more value than a T2000 though. Its a much nicer looking truck too. But now they are onto the 587 and T700 as well as the 579 and T680.
Tompa - 3/7/2013 04:41 We have an 03 T800 . Everyone who drive it says it is a nice truck and works well. However it has a16000lb front axle and it does not turn as short as some long nose Petes. The other beef I have is what other posters have said is good and that is leg room. I run the seat all the way back and can,t straighten my left leg all the way. Having a knee replacement on that leg makes for a long ride sometimes. I would test drive any truck before buying as sometimes the specs don't always prove out in real life. tom
Is it an Aerocab? Even so, a regular day cab Aerocab doesn't let a tall person stretch out, but it is sure roomier than any of the Macks, IH's, Freightliner or Volvo Day cabs I have driven. Extended day cab helps somewhat. Sleeper is nicest though if it fits the bill. Lets you slide way back and recline if needed. In our sleeper truck I sit behind what would be the back panel on a standard day cab. have to lean forward a ways to see out the side window for traffic. I really notice how tight the non-aerocab daycab T800 is after driving the sleeper truck, but after sitting in the Mack or Freightliner for awhile, that T800 seems like it has the most room in the world. Could just be because the dash is further away, maybe not actually much more leg room, but I don't know. Feels more comfortable. |
