I am alittle concerned that if they eventually quit putting on commercial fertilizer altogether that wouldn't they eventually mine some of the nutrients like, P & K & S and a few of the other nutriets? I can see how they can make N with legume crops but if they are removing grain from the fields and not replacing any nutriets I don't see how they will eventually loosing some yield. I don't think the biology of the soil can create new nutrients. Even if the roots go down deeper in the soil profile and pull those nutrients up to where the commercial crops can use them, they will eventually extract enough that there won't be as much available in the soil profile to maintain their yields.
