mennoboy - 3/4/2013 17:54 On our farm, canola costs more because it needs about 20 lbs of N more / ac and the seed cost is $50-60/ac whereas wheat seed costs are around $20/ac. I think western canadian average is around 32 or 33 bu/ac. There are areas that often get 40 bu/ac plus but there are areas where a "good" crop of canola is barely 30.

We are opposite on seed cost. however we do use about 10 more units of N on canola(100) compared to 90 on wheat.
