Frytown, Iowa
2 people in a conversation. Half that awkward silence is you. I will guarantee there will be no awkward silence if you say: I'm a farmer, i raise hogs and grow corn and soybeans. and cut right into a interesting (interesting to others) story like: and I aparantly raise pups as 2 weeks ago mom says "is your dog pregnant?" Nah, I say... Then I look closer and sure enough that lil girly looked real prego... Now 2 weeks later she gone and had 9 of them. 6 girls and 3 boys... Ol girl mixed herself in with the neighbor German shepherd one night and now got the cutest pups I've ever seen. Because its so cold outside I stuck her and the pups in the nursery (hog building) entry way on some straw where it's clean and 70 degrees. Now when I'm over checking on the baby piggies I'm also spending time with the pups.

Conversations like these show stewardship for all your animals on your farm and are interesting to any city person. I guarantee you have given enough information for them to dig into your story further and talk for hours more... Whether your trying to pick up that beautiful girl at the party or trying to keep a 3 hour flight next to a liberal Obama voter from being awkward and silent... The power is half in your hands.
