I think there are a few tings happening that will slow or stall the growth of canola acres in Western Canada.

in no particular order;

1) Shorter Season Corn and Soybean varieties are being released which are being heavily marketed by seed companies.

2) It appears we will have access to more (hopefully superior) wheat varieties quicker as the registration process becomes streamlined. Post CWB

3) It appears to me canola genetics have plateaued and we wont see the big improvements we have seen in the last 15 years.

4) The cost of growing canola is now so high that it will lose acres in less favorable canola growing areas. Example: south west Saskatchewan, Red river valley of Manitoba.
