That's some pretty tough looking winter wheat. I can't say that the winter wheat up here is going to look much better than that though. We've had pretty dry conditions up here as well and last fall we even had problems getting weighted down to the max air disc drills to stay in the ground while seeding. Our air drills with hoe type openers pulled up chunks and the seeding depth ranged from on top of the ground to 3 inches deep. We've been out soil sampling and looking at some fields. We have a stand coming for the most part, but we also have alot of wheat that sprouted last fall but hasn't emerged yet. Northern MT looks better then the southern half, but they got some rain mid October to help them get it growing. Good Luck to all of you in the Dust Bowl/Bread Basket.
