east central ND
x2 on Gerald J.'s comments. I am on 30" rows, plant 145,00 to 150,000, and the first priority is getting a big, bushy variety. I have old, bushy varieties on 30 " rows way out yield some fancy new numbers on 15" rows across the fence when we have lots of rain, heavy dews, and white mold pressure. Now on the other hand, the narrow rows did a bit better than mine in a dry season like last year. I have done the double planting on a few very dry fields to get 15" rows. Worked good without having another planter to do those few acres. I did try some new seed one year that was supposed to be bushy and was not. It never closed the rows, and took and extra trip of chemical to keep it clean. Still yielded fine. I would like to move to 22" rows, but will be a few years yet.
