Sandy Hook, MB

Hello John Hagen

I was baling hay 2.5 miles straight south of where the runway starts. It runs on a NW/SE angle so he was coming in to the east of me. That air base had 2 parallel runways, the closer one to the tower is still active & the farther one is converted to a drag race strip & part of a circuit race track, so I'm used to seen planes around here all the time. Just not passenger jetliners! It didn't hit me until about 5 minutes later, & I said out loud to myself, "what the heck is that plane doing here???!!!" It sure was something to see him glide in at what seemed to be only a few feet above the trees.
The same thing happened to my dad & sister. They were about 8 miles south of the airport. They were sitting outside visiting some neighbours when they saw the plane & it wasn't until a few minutes later that someone said, "Gee, that's an awfully big plane for around here & it sure was quiet."
