I used a roller after a field cult and  before planting 1 yr.   never again, the  planter pulled very hard and had bad side wall compaction.  we had to rotary hoe to get the corn up.  I now use a drag.   
If you want it level use a drag.  Rollers push out o2 and that hurts germ.
