Murfreesboro, Tennessee | I understand the frustration you are feeling. You were honest with them and in the long run, that is the best approach.
What I would do now (if you have not already), is contact the owners and let them know how you appreciate being given the chance to bid on the property. I would mention that the guy that will be renting the farm is a "good guy", but if something does not work out, you would be interested in property again.
If they are easy to talk with, or if you have a good relationship with them, simply ask them why you were not chosen. You may be suprised as to the reasosn. I have used this tactic before, and it has made me better at dealing with landowners (which is something I do not particularly like doing). Sometimes it is something I have done, but often times, it is because of other reasons that I have no control over (distant family friends, etc.).
