Subject: Re: Monsanto RR 1 fees suspended in Brazil Court action

Formerly NE North Dakota, now NW MN
We went down there a few years ago, and at that time the whole system was totally backwards of how it works up here. the said the first rr beans down there were basically stolen and the brazilian court system was (at that time anyways, no clue about now) really inefficient so they had a heckuva time nailing farmers to the cross like they do up here. So big M turned the screws to the big grain companies and said they would sue them at export destinations if they sold beans with rr in them that didnt have a tech. fee attached to em. So then the grain companies became responsible for collecting the tech. fee at time of delivery (harvest). They would ask the farmer if the beans were rr, if they said yes they would assess them a per-bushel tech fee, if they said no theyd test the beans for gmo content and if it turned out they lied... something bad happened to em, i don't remember. confiscate the load maybe? anyways, in short order (2 years or less)big M put the whole country under their thumb.

Their still not real happy with the situation because per-bushel means they are taking a chunk of the production risk that they never even have to think about in north america.
