| There are plenty of grass seed farmers who are chopping the straw back onto the field, especially tall fescue, myself included. It takes a properly set up combine, and a good flail chopper. If done soon after harvest it does not seem to hurt the yields, and seems to improve the soil tilth. Having clover in the rotation also helps. Mustard or canola may be a good rotation, but they are not economally feasable here, except in limited acreage speciality production.
