My motto is kill them while they are small. Dead weeds can't become resistant. I travel a lot for my day job. It's mostly the midwest, east coast, and west cost. When I see 12" tall marestail or flowering dandelions in a no till field that is yet to be planted, myself thinks that maybe one should have burned that field down when that weed was 2-4" tall. Just a thought. Some guys here wait to spray the marestail when it's 12-24" in crop and it barely kills them. It's only a matter of time before we are in the same boat as the southern boys. Giant rag and waterhemp are getting hard to kill here with just straight glyphosate, especially if there is any size to them.

And I don't see a problem getting "crop talky". This is crop talk. Size of a weed is almost directly proportional to how much herbicide is required to kill it. I don't believe in stunting weeds. The only good weed is a dead one. Now I realize that there are always exceptions and extenuating circumstances to every situation. One example for me is I do own my sprayer. I try to do as much as I can on my own. However, this summer we had a child. I knew I needed to spend more time with the wife in that first week. I called my friend who does crop spraying and let him custom spray. Did it suck paying someone to do what I am capable of doing? Yes. Was it more expensive? Yes. Are the weeds dead? Yes.
