Yes -
Most people do not seem to understand that the crop insurance date everyone gets so concerned about is for replant coverage only. It does not impact in season coverage. In other words - my magic date is 4-11. But if I plant on 3-27 like I did last year I have not negated my insurance coverage, only the coverage for replant.
If the conditions and the forecast are similar to last year we WILL plant early.
I understand the replant provisions as well, and you make great points. I have trouble with crop insurance dictating what may be a better option agronomically or financially for me. Sure, its tough to loose the replant deal, but theres an awful lot of other things to consider along with that decision. If I can give that up in return for potentially higher returns or yields, I'm all for it. |
