Subject: Hopper vs. Flat Wet bin

Morris, IL
Talking about a bin to feed grain dryer. Can't decide between a 24' 12,500 bushel flat bottom bin and a 21' 8,000 bushel hopper bottom bin. The flat will hold about 2000 bushel more then hopper bin while feeding dryer and 4500 more at end of season. Flat bottom bin has full floor, power sweep, fan, and stairs. Hopper has fan kit and ladder. Total price is very similar including everything, which would you choose? Keep in mind for current combine both are 3-4 times the size we really need but planing for decent size 8 row machine in the future. Dryer will do 400-600 an hour.

Also can look at it this way. A 21' flat bottom bin setup same way as 24' above is about $5,000 cheaper then 21' Hopper bin, the bushels stored in cone would be very similar. Would you spend the extra money on hopper bin? I'm thinking yes to this question but one above i'm not sure about. The price of flat bottom bin goes down a lot going from 21-24' bin. Even more going from 24-30', then it levels off. Hopper is pretty much identical price per bushel for 18' and 21'.

Thanks in advance guys.
