Wi | Automatic will be an Allison and will drive like any other automatic.
Autoshift has clutch. It will be an Eaton.
Ultrashift has no clutch. Also an Eaton
Freedomline (Meritor), and I-Shift(Volvo) are also automated manuals.
Advantages to both. Ultra is tough to "inch" but if you are missing a left leg it can be nice.
Personally I am a KW fan and prefer a C15/3406. Cummins is my next choice since KW didn't use many Detroits. The 60 series is an efficient engine that is cheap the rebuild if needed. Cat will cost the most to rebuild, Cummins will be in the middle.
The reason I choose KW is equally service, comfort and quality. I have a high standard to all three of those. Some people do not. In that case many trucks will fit your bill. I will say Mack/Volvo tend to be pricey to work on with slow parts. Pete/KW tend to keep things common over the years which is nice. Nothing wrong with a good ol freightshaker either. Many people also like their sterlings too. They aren't around anymore, but parts come through Daimler.
