Ethanol is only 75,700 BTU per gallon, regular gasoline, around 116,000, diesel around 139,000. That is why your mileage is poor compared to regular gasoline. I figure my Duramax takes 7500 BTU per mile, unloaded at 70 MPH, which gives me around 18 MPG. Now if it were running on ethanol it would be 10 mpg or less.
