FWIW, I as a producer of corn and soybeans, would be more competitive without DCP and subsidized insurance. My payments are little on the DCP side and my subsidy per acre for insurance really isn't going to put me in the poor house. You go 100 miles south and the insurance cost the producer 1/2 and the DCP payment is 2x. The APH is roughly 175 vs 150 so if we cut it across the board I could be more competitive. DCP, CSP, EQIP, etc. only slant it away from the smaller producer. That being said, if my neighbor is getting the "freebies", I sure as heck am going to sign in because we are competing for the same piece of ground to farm. | |
