Cambridge, southwestern Nebraska | When CRP came into play a program like that was very much needed to support prices. Once Ethanol demand kicked it it wasn't needed as much. What I hope doesn't happen is the governmentallowing CRP contracts on land that shouldn't be farmed that has been broken out in the last 5 years or so. Around here, there are a lot of pastures with canyon banks being dozed down and farmed. It's redicoulous. Those acres are only capable of 1/3rd the production most other ground is capable of and those fields will be the first ones to lose money when margins narrow. I know for a fact that is the plan for some of those guys. Put it into CRP and get payed 3 times what pasture rent would have payed. That's not right. |
