I understand your point.  But I also suspect that you are not old enough to remember times before crop insurance.  Read my post from earlier on Crop Insurance.   I sent this to a friend of mine who is in the crop insurance business.  He said my post is "spot on".

edit: I will say that I also want to see the government out of agriculture.  However, having the government subsidized crop insurance is one of those ideas that I can justify.  The alternative is worse - in my opinion.
