Subject: tires and lightning....

Driftless SW Wisconsin
Marc,

I was driving through a very intense band of storms recently late at night with lightning strikes way to close for comfort, especially with a large piece of steel equipment on the gooseneck behind me....

The same question came to mind about being less of a ground rod since I was "on rubber". There was no place safe to pull off so I continued on telling myself that I was "on rubber"...

I asked a knowledgeable truck mechanic/tire guy a few days later and he said that tires these days generally have a steel belt in them somewhere. He said that steel belted tires tend to lessen the insulating effect of rubber tires, that you are to a large degree "grounded", fwiw.
