I'm pretty sure you've allready thought about this, but I'll say it anyway. TRACKS???:-) If you put tracks on it, you wont need the expensive planetary boxes. Just a thought. A tracked 3 wheeler would ride a lot nicer and you would'nt have those pesky tire flat spots to deal with in the cool spring mornings.

Otherwise, cranes and various high lift equipment use a lot of reduced axles.
