Subject: RE: Pros and cons of John Deere ILS

West Texas

2002 8420 with ILS: 3500 hrs to date.

Had one hydraulic hose blow due to bad crimp. Warranty fix.

Hight/level sensor went out due to pin turning in housing. They fixed it under a fix-as-they-fail pip. Newer ones have been updated.

CV joint went out just last month. They replaced the whole shaft (one unit) warranty fix.

2004 8420 with ILS: 1500 hrs. No problems to date.

Yes, would get another one. Still can't hold a candle to Cat MT series but can't hardly get our guys to drive the Cat. They are to stubborn to learn how to properly operate it.

Cat MT and 8420

8420

Dislikes: dust gets in the cab badly!!

Fuel use when pulling hard. Can't run more then about 9-10 hrs if that long.

Is it worth the money? Yes I think so. But they still get the bouncing when pulling hard.  Just not near as bad as regular mfwd.
