Faunsdale, AL | What you're describing sounds like another calf nursed her and she got mastitis. As it is going on, you will be able to see that she has milk when she shouldn't, but once it has gone down, you may not see much unless the mastitis gets "hot" and makes an enlarged quarter and or teat full of pus. Frequently never notice anything and when they calve you don't have any gland left in those quarters.
If you can catch them when they have been suckled and have milk, you can put in dry treatment antibiotics (and stop the suckling!) and prevent most of the mastitis cases. | |
