I spent three years on a flightline working on jet aircraft. They had J-47-17 engines which had afterburners. In 1954 I was checking a gernerator on an aircraft and the crew cheif on an adjoining aircraft was doing an engine run-up. He lit the afterburner and my ears have been ringing since then. Jim J
