Northwest Illinois | +1 on the 1400 series IH combine if you decide to do the picking yourself. They are about as simple and cheap to run as you will find and they can be had for peanuts. Many of their parts are very similar if not interchangeble with a 2300 series. A good 1063 might cost more than the combine. 1020 platforms are dirt cheap too. You're on the right track with a 7000 planter. Most 8 row rigid 7000s around here get bought by jockeys and cut down to 6R30. A good 7000 6R30 still brings pretty good money here but they are simple and easy to rebuild and they work. Its hard to beat a DMI tigermate field cultivator. An IH 490 or 496 disk is a good bet. Its easy to get caught up in the whole Precision/ GPS world but for your acres, it will be hard to quantify any measurable savings. I'm sure you will do fine. Its good to still have your Dad in the picture too. Listen to his wisdom. Good luck. | |
