Subject: Dry chemical fire extinguisher maintenance

SE South Dakota
A few years ago a local volunteer firefigher was helping me with my fall harvest. He suggested that the dry chemical fire extinguishers that we have on our equipment need a little maintenance once in a while. He took ahold of one and started to rap in on the tire of the combine. The dry powder in the extinguisher will start to settle solid if it is not broken up once in a while.
Sure enough when you grab one and start shaking it at first it will seem to be solid but after a few lite raps on a tire or something you will feel that it loosens up.
I just do this once or twice a year and hope that I never have to use them!
