Subject: RE: Feeding holstein steers

we have been feeding holstiens for long time. tried colored cattle but came back to holsteins. Started with stuffers and have transitioned to tmr. We have not seen a great difference in finish weights feeding on stuffers or a tmr built around corn silage. Today we are feeding up to 25lbs of silage aday thru the grower stage and at 1100 pouring the corn and earlage to them and getting a finished wieght of 1450. Sent semi load to Plainwell monday and had 5 head get discounted as they were to fat being yield grade 5's. The load average was 1450. Never use to think they could get to fat however since feeding TMR having more trouble not getting them to fat esspecially when the packers are stalling taking contract cattle in.
