Subject: NH3 PRICE

Gary Edwards Anamosa, Iowa

I booked my NH3 today for $640/ton and sold Dec corn for $4.96.  I figure this is equivalent to $300 NH3 and $2.25 Dec corn.

With $5.00 corn and $11.50 beans,no matter how I figure it I still cannot justify growing beans.  It costs me $100/acre more to grow corn than beans.  I can normally grow at least 150 bu corn on corn.  150 times $5.00 is $750 minus $100 is $650 divided by $11.50 is 56.5 beans.  I have never averaged over 50 bushel  beans on the whole farm.

Plant more corn.
