Subject: RE: Did any of you know Ernest Behn - tillplant aka ridgetill pioneer?

Central Iowa

Joel, I knew Ernie quite well, I considered him a mentor for adapting ridge till. I made countless trips to his farm (to the next county north of me about 20 miles) to observe him and his son Jerry's operation. He gave frequent presentations during the winter that were excellant. I attended quite a few of them.

Ernie for a time in the 1970's was the director of my county's SCS (now NRCS) office.

I still drive by their farm every now and then. Jerry and grandson Chad run the operation now. They have been ripping their cornstalks the last several years so they may have moved away from ridge till.
