I don't think there is a better tractor out there then an E model when it comes to getting work done and staying in service economically. A tuned 65E will do anything a stock 95 will do. The only real difference is a little more bore diameter.
55 should be playing with a 36' field cultivator. Really, it ought to be playing with anything that Steiger would pull unless he had a chisel which was too big for it.
The hills and heavy soil don't do that 55 any favors. I do agree with him that it could use a few more ponies under the hood to pull what he has.
