The reason for using the power beyond block is to put the return oil back into the low pressure side of the system. XJD is correct in that the added block does NOT return the oil into the transmisson case sump. The 4440 in the picture has the automatic bypass incorporated in the thick green block in front of the unpainted power beyond block.
