I suppose most of the time, you'll be driving to these parties, so nobody will take offense if you don't drink. Nobody should actually be drinking if they're driving afterward. Two years ago I took a cab to come back from my Christmas party, only way to enjoy a drink safely. Last Christmas party I got a ride home by the teenage son of the house who could drive but not drink. And people say teenage kids are useless... ;)

One thing you could do at weddings and anniversaries is bring a bottle of blackcurrant or blackberry liquor (crème de cassis). Since there's always white wine at these parties, a splash of the liquor and white wine on top makes a great apéritif called "kir", or "kir royal" with Champagne. Most people like it dry so use just a few drops of liquor, but I prefer it sweet.
