Floyd County, Iowa
Well put JD6620.
My 82 yr old Dad is in a nursing home now, from a fall in the kitchen that resulted in a fractured pelvis in November. Doesn't look like he'll be leaving. When it starts going, it's a snowball effect- one thing after/on top of another.
He has RNs and CNAs within 50 feet at all times, taking care of meds, bathing, turning, feeding, therapy, and the wiping thing.
It's not where he or we wanted, but we simply can't do it- all us kids work, and can't afford to be home 24 hrs a day. Sad, but a fact.
I think the people that work there deserve medals, and I've told them so.

To the OP- when we put mother-in-law in home 11 years ago (Alzheimers), any asset transfers had to be done 5 years prior to admission for her to be eligible for state aid. If not, leins would be filed on transferred property when aid was applied for. Needless to say, assets were not transferred before that time (who knew it was coming), so to keep land in family, the rent has to go up with nursing home bill.
