Faunsdale, AL | Blackeyed peas, greens (collard, mustard or turnip-your choice), ham for seasoning both vegetables and cornbread to go with them are part of every new year's dinner here. Have to remember to soak the peas the night before. I've eaten a few crunchy ones so I would have prosperity in the coming year when they didn't get done in time!
This year my wife put the peas and ham in rice, so I couldn't put peas and the broth from cooking over the cornbread. Had to make do with collard green broth and then molasses on buttered cornbread for desert. | |
